School Hall - Front

Tal-Ħandaq
No need for a lengthy description here.   Memories of morning assembly - the headmaster's daily pep talk, singing hymns , school plays, speeches (always resulting in extra half days holiday) and for the more confident pupil - dancing!

  1. I remember people fainting from the heat! In retrospect, I wonder if more than a few of those fainting were doing so to get out of assembly, lol.

  2. I remember that too Donna. In fact here's a quote from Captain D. E. Mannering's headmaster's report given to the school on prize day 1959 - "Other much needed improvements such as a hall in which 'all the children could assemble without half a dozen of them fainting — and with some room left over for parents; and such as covered ways to reduce the impossible conditions here on a wet day — these I suspect will not be seen for a long time.". Well he was half right, the school did eventually get the covered walkways but the new school hall never materialised.
